Sara Shamma participates in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022

21 June 2022
Meera & Sanjeev is the title of Sara Shamma’s painting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London this year.
The Summer Exhibition is the oldest art show in the world, run without interruption since 1769, it showcases art in all forms, from prints, painting, film and photography, to architectural works and sculpture by invited artists, Royal Academicians and emerging talent.
Shamma’s painting ‘Meera & Sanjeev’ is a portrait of the acclaimed multi Award-winning British actors Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar. The portrait is part of the ‘Powerful Couples’, a series of paintings by the artist depicting couples who are both highly productive and celebrated in their fields. “Powerful couples encourage, support and inspire each other, as a result they increase what they give to humanity” Shamma explained.
This year, the theme chosen by the exhibition’s coordinator, Alison Wilding RA, is ‘Climate’. Whether as a crisis or opportunity, or simply our everyday experience, it is an all-embracing subject.
The Summer Exhibition is open to the public from 21 June 2022 until 21 August 2022.
